We are currently accepting new patients!
What do we do at the initial appointment?
At your initial dental appointment we will review your medical and dental histories and discuss any concerns you may have. Your initial appointment will also consist of a very comprehensive examination. We will perform an oral cancer examination, periodontal examination evaluating the teeth and the soft tissues that support them, examination of your teeth to check for dental decay (cavities), as well as an assessment of the condition of existing fillings, crowns, bridgework and partial dentures etc. Only necessary x-rays will be taken. Children will be checked to ensure that all teeth are developing correctly, and if any future orthodontic treatment is likely to be required. If time permits we will also provide a dental cleaning, polish and fluoride if required.
What happens after the initial appointment?
Once the thorough examination is complete, we will discuss the findings with you, and if any treatment is required, discuss the options and the investment required in terms of both time and fees. We will listen to your desires and develop an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve dental health and any desired goals you may have in relation to your teeth. If any treatment is required we can schedule your appointments depending on your availability and preferences.
Will my insurance company pay for the new patient exam?
Most insurance companies will reimburse you for a complete new patient exam every 3 years. However, some companies have restrictions if you have had another type of dental exam such as an emergency exam or a specific exam within a certain time frame. We would recommend that you check directly with your insurance company to determine your eligibility so you know for sure. The code for an adult new patient exam is 01103. Please ask the insurance company if this code will be covered for you and for each member of your family who will be coming to see us. Please make sure your record the date you called them, and the insurance worker's name who provided you with the information.
We will assist you in direct billing but your portion of insurance will be expected at the time of service. If you do not have dental insurance complete payment will also be expected on the date of service.
Do I really need to have a complete assessment -- can't you just use the records from my previous dentist?
This thorough dental assessment is a requirement for all new patients to our office. Even if you have been seeing your previous dentist on a very regular basis, it is essential that we also fully examine your oral health status. We assess each individual tooth and area in your mouth, gather baseline data, and diagnose any conditions we see. It is impossible to provide safe, optimum dental care without up to date, accurate clinical records, and although this thorough takes time, we believe it lays the foundation to provide a systematic approach to overall treatment planning and to restoring optimum dental health.
What about x-rays?
At this appointment, we will take only the necessary digital x-rays needed to come to a diagnosis. Please let us know if you have bitewing radiographs (x-rays), a panoramic x-ray, or any other x-rays from a previous office that were taken within one year. We will assist you in requesting these radiographs to be forwarded to our office, which will then allow us to only update what is necessary.
